Baby, don't you know I've gone away But you're all wrapped Around these gears Dreamin' that tomorrow is today And honey, do you think The world's gone by? But don't you look at me You're only growing Older 'til you die Close your eyes You're only growing older 'Til you die You're only growing older Close your eyes Baby, don't you know The world's okay But you're all stuck Inside these tears Wishin' that your life Would slip away And honey, do you think You've seen the sky? But you're the same as me You're only growing Older 'til you die Close your eyes You're only growing older 'Til you die You're only growing older Close your eyes

Stitches 04:18
I drift like ashes through these paper walls Children play, and lovers fight, But the world it feels so small. There's an enemy that stalks me like a fever in the rain But I've got miles before me, Miles behind, and this will never end, Because I lost the art. Because I broke a heart. Because I broke the art. Because I lost the heart. I drag like a suitcase stuck in the door of a passing car, And I smoke and I spark, and I know they're asking "How'd he get so far?" Oh, I don't know. I can't see. But I still care, how you took me there. It's a million mikes of stone, But I'm coming home. I'm coming home. Up left, down and right, You'll be safe and sound tonight. Up left, down and right, You'll be safe. You'll be safe. Because I lost the art. Because I broke a heart. Because I broke the art. Because I lost the heart. Because I lost the heart.

Move Along 04:22
Gray. You're cold as you walk away. Slice clean and see. Thousands of parts, no room for beauty. Pray. Your feet trace another day. The miles and the pasture and sky. A promise of life without room for goodbye. Cold, shiver now. Cold, shiver down. There is no one here to see. Move along now, move along now. There is no one here to see. Move along now, carefully. Thousands of parts... Cold, shiver now. Cold, shiver down. Gray. The lights of the cars are gray. They light up the stars today. Gray. The lights of the cars are gray. They light up the stars today. The lights are... Cold, shiver now. Cold, shiver down. There is no one... There is no one here to see. Move along now, move along now. There is no one here to see. Move along now, carefully. There is no one here to see. Move along now, move along now. There is no one here to see. Move along now, carefully.

Jesse's got a razor blade I can't feel the hand that shaves my face In a bad dream These fine lines dissect my resting place Jesse, better run now I can't hear the sirens when I sleep In a locked box Wrapped up with the sticks and stones I keep Jesse, what's the point of counting sheep? We're all chasing windmills While you're dying in your sleep Jesse's got a diary I don't know the names of all my friends In the back seat These fine lines draw streets that never end Jesse, what's the point of counting sheep? We're all chasing windmills While you're dying in your sleep

about

To me, every album I create is a tiny ecosystem - a miniature world of sound. This time, that world was so different that I felt like it was no longer my own. So, I started a side project. Marianas is that project, and Primitive Mirrors is the first release.

about

Ian Marquis Portland, Maine

My songs are tiny ecosystems: self-sustaining, self-contained, intricate, and densely layered. I'm captivated by found sound and immaculate production. I sample my own work. I chop up my guitars and create arrangements I could never have played. I treat my voice like an instrument, pushing and pulling it in otherworldly directions. I polish each track until, sonically, it feels like it sparkles. ... more
