about

I originally wrote this song for a collaboration I had with a couple of friends back in 2007 or so. Every year I would return to the mix and redo it. Now, I'm making it my own: the lyrics are new, the production is seriously revamped, and the vocals are all my own (I wasn't singing back when I first wrote it).

lyrics

Woke up to find the sun was gone
Not a glimmer in the steel-gray sky
I went out searching for a song
I woke up wishing I could fly

Oh, can you hear me now?
I'm getting warmer as I go

I pulled myself upon the clouds
My body wasting all the while
I don't remember where I'm from
I woke up thinking of your smile

Oh, can you hear me now?
I'm getting warmer as I go
Oh, can you see me now?
I'll make it someday, oh, I know

about

Ian Marquis Portland, Maine

I chop up my guitars and create arrangements I could never have played. I treat my voice like an instrument, pushing and pulling it in otherworldly directions. I polish each track until, sonically, it feels like it sparkles. ... more
