about

This track started out as a dissonant instrumental piece I initially wrote for a contest. Later, I gave it a narrative and added vocals.

lyrics

All in my imagination
No ground beneath my feet
Illusory people greet me
I pass them on the street

Effervescent ozone
Hangs like perfume in the air
A hand stretched out in greeting
But I know it isn't really there

Voices in the ether
All skin and bones
And I just don't care

I ain't my brother's keeper
The price we pay
It just ain't fair

Await this retribution
Cause What I've got is scarce and lean
Our lips around pollution
You fear a price you just ain't seen

My hands upon the altar
Oh, can you hear? Or should I scream?
Afraid your step will falter
Is it the end or is this just a dream?

Voices in the ether
All skin and bones
And I just don't care

I ain't my brother's keeper
The price we pay
It just ain't fair

about

Ian Marquis Portland, Maine

I chop up my guitars and create arrangements I could never have played. I treat my voice like an instrument, pushing and pulling it in otherworldly directions. I polish each track until, sonically, it feels like it sparkles. ... more
