about

The Shivers is my second album. I've been writing and recording for about eight years now, and these are the best songs I have ever produced. Every single track in this collection has run through my head more times than I can count. I have bass lines, guitar riffs, and synth leads stuck in my memory from countless hours of repetition. I spent over a year making The Shivers. I hope you enjoy it.

about

Ian Marquis Portland, Maine

My songs are tiny ecosystems: self-sustaining, self-contained, intricate, and densely layered. I'm captivated by found sound and immaculate production. I sample my own work. I chop up my guitars and create arrangements I could never have played. I treat my voice like an instrument, pushing and pulling it in otherworldly directions. I polish each track until, sonically, it feels like it sparkles. ... more

Track Name: Supersonic
In and out is the way
That we breathe
A fixture beside me
Confirming my need
Within us we hide
All these deeds we're about
I'm up and I'm in
Down and you're out

These words move faster
Than the air we breathe
Track Name: Girl's Got Altitude
Twenty odd years I was stuck in a daze
Pulling on fixtures to get through this maze
Changed all my numbers and grew out my hair
I couldn't escape, I was already there

Well I lost my way; she said "that's okay"
The future don't matter outside of today
She said "don't look down, don't you make a sound"
Don't look down 'til we're back on the ground

Don't look down, don't you make a sound
Don't look down, baby, don't look down

This morning I woke and I couldn't see my face
I tore up my memories, did not leave a trace
I'm stuck with these numbers and losing my hair
There's just no escape when you're already there

She says "it's okay, don't we all lose our way?"
The future don't matter when it's time to play
She said "don't look down, don't you make a sound"
Don't look down 'til we're back on the ground

Don't look down, don't you make a sound
Don't look down, baby, don't look down
Track Name: Going Down
Every day it stings
Left me with these broken wings
We don't sing, we're just livid

Circumstance, it thrums
Cholera inside me runs
It ain't fun, but we're livin'

Forgive me
But I'm not the one
That you said I'd be
This ain't what I bargained for

Forgive me
But you're not the one
That I thought you'd be
Now what's behind that door?
Track Name: Clarified
Tell me what you want from me

Little ones
I'm too bored to play
Don't you know
That I've gone away?

Little ones
I'm too bored to sing
Don't you know
That this don't mean a thing?

Tell me what you want from me
Track Name: Redline
I'd love to crawl inside your head
I curl up in my own instead
It's just gravitation, this infatuation, she said
Don't you quit 'til I'm dead

This anticipation is a squeeze
Inside my head and between your knees
It's your imagination, this maturation you seize
Only losers say "please"

Oh, let me curl up in your head
The things inside my own are dead
It's all anticipation, my imagination, she said
Track Name: Close Your Eyes
Baby, don't you know
I've gone away
But you're all wrapped
Around these gears
Dreamin' that tomorrow is today

And honey, do you think
The world's gone by?
But don't you look at me
You're only growing
Older 'til you die

Close your eyes
You're only growing older
'Til you die
You're only growing older
Close your eyes

Baby, don't you know
The world's okay
But you're all stuck
Inside these tears
Wishin' that your life
Would slip away

And honey, do you think
You've seen the sky?
But you're the same as me
You're only growing
Older 'til you die

Close your eyes
You're only growing older
'Til you die
You're only growing older
Close your eyes

What's up is down

Baby, don't you know
The world's okay

Baby, don't you know
I've gone away
Track Name: Discredited
This desert is a waste of space
You've got me here locked in place
So tell me, what is it gonna be?
Is all this a game?
Are you playing with me?

She says he's gonna come for her
She holds her breath
Don't you know it's true
Some day she's gonna come for me
Some day he's gonna come for me

Everybody is a waste of space
You hold your breath
But you know it's true
Nobody's gonna come for me
He doesn't give a damn about you

She wants these words to be true

I want you here with me
But you call this therapy
You wanna spin my world around
This ain't the first time
I ain't gonna back down

He says he's gonna come for her
She holds her breath
'Til her face runs blue
Some day he's gonna make you see
Some day she's gonna set me free

She says he's gonna come for her
Nobody's gonna come for me

I want you here with me
Track Name: House of Cards
I keep telling you, baby
I'm just a fool
Such an easy game
When you don't know the rules

I know we're gonna collapse
When I get to the top
And I wanna put it away
I just can't stop

We all fall down

Such a silly game
We both like to play
When you wanna hold me close
I push you away

Sometimes I feel sad
I don't know why
'Cause I never thought
I'd ever get this high

We all fall down
